Hyderabad: BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K Laxman has accused the Congress-led Telangana government of misleading Backward Classes (BCs) through a fake caste census. Speaking at an event celebrating Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi on Monday, he criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress party for misrepresenting BC numbers.

Laxman stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claims the caste census will be a model for the country. However, in Telangana, BCs make up 51 percent of the population but are shown as only 45 percent in the survey, with 10 percent of Muslims included in the BC quota. He questioned if this was truly a model for the nation or just a way to gain votes.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for honoring Ambedkar’s legacy through various central government programs. Laxman highlighted that Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, worked hard to ensure fair representation for backward communities.

According to Laxman, Ambedkar faced repeated disrespect from Congress leaders, including then-Prime Minister Nehru. He said Nehru forced Ambedkar to resign despite his contributions as Law Minister. He also noted that Ambedkar opposed Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, but Congress ignored his warnings.

He further accused the Congress party of blocking reforms meant to help the marginalized. Laxman said Nehru refused to pass the Hindu Code Bill that would have given equal rights to Hindu women and ignored Ambedkar’s suggestions to give constitutional rights to SCs, STs, and BCs.

Laxman added that the Congress leadership, including Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, have a history of opposing caste-based reservations. He pointed out that VP Singh implemented the Mandal Commission report, which Congress had ignored for years.

He concluded by saying that under Modi’s leadership, the central government has supported the poor and marginalized through schemes like Standup India and Mudra loans. He also credited the BJP for electing leaders from Dalit, tribal, and minority communities, such as A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. According to Laxman, the Modi government is committed to fairness for all, while Congress has repeatedly gone against Ambedkar’s vision.
