Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar is calling for an expert committee to address the issue of the NEET All India quota. He believes that the current system is unfair to Telangana students due to the presence of more government medical colleges in the state.
In Telangana, there are 30 medical PG colleges, with 10 being government colleges. Out of a total of 2,978 seats, only 1,267 are government seats. However, 50% of the seats in government colleges are reserved under the All India quota, resulting in 621 seats being lost by Telangana students.
Vinod Kumar argues that Telangana students are at a disadvantage compared to students from other states because they prefer to study in their home state due to better facilities. This leads to a situation where students from other states can become locals for PG admissions in Telangana, but Telangana students studying in other states face challenges in both locations.
The BRS leader also highlights the frustration of students who have been protesting to cancel the NEET exam. He questions why the Centre and the courts have not taken action to address the concerns of these students, whose lives have been put on hold.
