The Ministers conducted a review meeting with officials on Tuesday at the Secretariat in Hyderabad to assess the progress of the project. Minister Ponguleti explained that RCC concrete walls are being built on both sides of the Munneru River to prevent flooding in Khammam city. He emphasized the importance of designing the wall properly to ensure floodwaters are directed safely without impacting the city.

Minister Ponguleti instructed officials to accelerate both the land acquisition process and the construction work. He assured them that he would personally monitor the progress twice a month. Additionally, he announced plans to hold a follow-up review meeting with officials from Khammam district within the next two to three days.

He also asked officials to promptly report any challenges faced during the construction process. The Minister stressed that the retaining wall should account for past flood patterns, particularly those observed between 1969 and September 2024.

The retaining wall, spanning approximately 23 kilometers, aims to benefit residents of both the Khammam and Paleru Assembly constituencies. The review meeting was attended by Irrigation Principal Secretary Rahul Bojja, Special Secretary Prashant Jeevan Patil, ENC Anil Kumar, and other officials.
