Hyderabad: As the Musi River swells with increased water flow, people living nearby are on edge, ready for possible challenges. After opening the Himayat Sagar gates, traffic stopped at Moosarambagh and Jiyaguda bridges. Commuters are advised to find other routes. Constant heavy rains led to the opening of five gates at Himayat Sagar to manage water discharge.
The Musi River, flowing through the city, is getting heavy upstream water. Residents in low-lying areas like Malakpet, Kishanbagh, Jiyaguda, Puranapul, MGBS, Chaderghat, and Golnaka are on high alert. Authorities have closed the Moosarambagh-Amberpet bridge and Jiyaguda road to ensure safety.
Traffic police have set up barricades to block vehicle access on the Moosarambagh bridge and the 100 ft road at Jiyaguda, causing some traffic delays. Both the police and city officials are watching the Musi River’s water levels closely. The Rajendranagar ORR Exit No. 17 service road is also closed due to flooding, and the Himayat Sagar service road will stay shut as a precaution during water release.
The rising water near the small bridge at Malakpet concerns locals about possible flooding in nearby areas. “If the water rises above the bridge, homes will flood. We’re watching the water level, and it hasn’t reached the bridge yet,” shared Sarwar, a resident near Chaderghat’s small bridge.
HMWSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy has instructed officials to stay alert and work with the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district teams, the HMDA, GHMC, and police to manage the situation effectively.
