Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park celebrated ‘World Rhinoceros Day’ on Sunday. As part of the event, a talk show was held at the rhinoceros enclosure to teach visitors about the importance of these animals.
Nehru Zoological Park is known for being one of the top zoos in the country that successfully breeds the greater one-horned rhinoceros. The zoo is home to five rhinoceroses, including three males and two females. Their names are Suraj, Saraswathi, Sai Vijay, Nanda, and Prema.
Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, the director and curator of the zoo, along with officials from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), took part in the celebrations at the rhino enclosure. Dr. Sunil thanked all the visitors and IOCL for their support in the zoo’s conservation breeding program.
In a special gesture, A. Krishna Murthy, a retired Indian Army officer, decided to adopt an Indian gaur (a type of large wild cattle) for one year. He visited the zoo with his daughter and grandson and donated Rs 50,000 to support the animal’s care. Dr. Sunil expressed his gratitude for this generous contribution.
