Hyderabad: The proposed Budvel–Kosgi Greenfield Highway has received a major push with its inclusion under the National Highway 167N (NH167N) expansion. The highway is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity by linking ORR Exit 17 (Budvel) with Kosgi and Kodangal in southern Telangana.

The greenfield corridor will span approximately 81 kilometres in total, of which around 52 kilometres will function as a crucial radial road connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR). This alignment is being viewed as a strategic infrastructure upgrade for Hyderabad’s fast-expanding southwest corridor.

Key Project Features

The Budvel–Kosgi highway is planned as a 4-lane access-controlled road, with provisions to upgrade it to six lanes in the future based on traffic demand. The access-controlled design will allow faster movement of vehicles while supporting long-distance freight and regional commuting.

The highway will directly benefit growing areas such as Budvel, Chandhanvelly, Kodangal, and Kosgi, which are witnessing increased interest from real estate developers, logistics players, and industrial investors.

Construction and Land Acquisition Status

According to official updates, construction work has already begun on the Budvel–Chandhanvelly stretch. Initial ground-level activities indicate that the project has moved beyond planning into early execution.

In parallel, the government has issued land acquisition notifications for multiple sections of the proposed alignment. These notifications mark a critical step toward securing right-of-way for the highway and accelerating full-scale construction.

Strategic Importance of the Corridor

The Budvel–Kosgi Greenfield Highway is expected to serve as a major logistics and mobility corridor, reducing dependency on existing state highways and rural roads. Once operational, it will ease traffic pressure on internal routes and offer a faster alternative for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

Its integration with ORR Exit 17 makes Budvel a key gateway for south-western expansion, especially as Hyderabad’s development pushes beyond the ORR toward the RRR. The corridor is also expected to enhance access to upcoming townships, industrial parks, and logistics hubs planned along the southern belt.

Economic and Development Impact

Infrastructure experts believe the highway will act as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and real estate appreciation across connected regions. Areas like Kodangal and Kosgi are already witnessing increased land aggregation and planning activity in anticipation of improved connectivity.

By enabling faster movement between Hyderabad and its southern hinterland, the project is expected to support industrial expansion, warehousing, and regional trade, while also improving daily commute options for residents.

What Lies Ahead

While land acquisition and preliminary construction are underway, further progress will depend on the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), environmental clearances, and phased funding allocations.

Once completed, the Budvel–Kosgi Greenfield Highway under NH167N is expected to become a vital part of Telangana’s road infrastructure network, strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a well-connected metropolitan and logistics hub.
