Hyderabad: The 139th birth anniversary of Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan, was observed on Sunday at his mausoleum, Masjid-e-Judi in King Koti. Family members, historians, and heritage lovers came together to pay floral tributes and remember his contributions.
Those who attended included his grandson Nawab Mir Najaf Ali Khan, Anuradha Reddy from INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), Mohd Anas Ali Khan, AICC OBC Coordinator Anil Kumar, students, and members of the public. They all paid their respects and remembered the Nizam’s work in education, infrastructure, and public welfare. The gathering honored him as a visionary and progressive ruler.
Nawab Najaf Ali Khan described his grandfather as a secular and compassionate leader whose efforts are still appreciated by people from all communities. He expressed disappointment that the Nizam’s legacy has not been properly recognized. He urged the government to officially celebrate the Nizam’s birthday, include his story in history books, and restore important buildings from his reign. He especially called for urgent repairs to the Osmania General Hospital.
He added that Nizam VII lived a simple life but worked hard to develop Hyderabad into a modern and inclusive city. He said the Nizam’s contributions are visible throughout the city and it is painful that successive governments have not honored his memory appropriately.
To mark the occasion, Deccan Archive and INTACH Hyderabad organized a heritage walk at King Koti. The event aimed to celebrate the Nizam’s legacy and highlight the cultural and architectural treasures from his time.
