Hyderabad: Olectra Greentech Limited has reached an important milestone by winning an order for 297 electric buses. These are 9-metre, non-air-conditioned (non-AC) buses that will be used by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).
This deal is special because it is the first and largest direct purchase of electric buses by a State transport organization in India. Olectra received the official Letter of Award (LOA) from Murari Lal, Executive Director of HRTC.
The buses are specially built to handle the steep and hilly roads of Himachal Pradesh. Each bus can carry 30 passengers and can travel up to 180 kilometers on a single charge.
The total order is worth ₹424 crore, making it one of the biggest electric bus purchases by a single state under the outright buying method. This move is a big step towards cleaner and more eco-friendly public transportation in the country.
