Mercer’s 2023 Cost of Living report shows that Hyderabad City is one of the most expensive cities in India, along with Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Pune. The survey looked at 200 factors such as transport, food, clothing, accommodation, home appliances, and entertainment in 227 cities across five continents. Hyderabad ranked 202nd on the list.
Mumbai is the most expensive city in India, ranking at 147th position globally. Delhi is at 169, Chennai at 184, Bangalore at 189, Kolkata at 211, and Pune at 213. Meanwhile, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich are the top three most expensive cities in the world. Havana, Karachi, and Islamabad in Pakistan are also among the most expensive cities.
According to the report, accommodation costs in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune are 50 percent less compared to Mumbai. Kolkata also has low accommodation costs for foreign workers.
