CM Revanth Reddy Calls for Change in Bureaucratic Approach

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed concerns about the approach of present-day bureaucrats. He believes that many officials are following the wrong examples set in society rather than acting as responsible administrators.

Speaking at the launch of the book Life of a Karma Yogi by retired IAS officer M Gopalakrishna, the CM emphasized the need for change among bureaucrats for the betterment of society. He recalled that in the past, 70 to 80 percent of officials used to brief political leaders about potential legal issues and consequences before implementing decisions. However, today, officials are more focused on identifying multiple mistakes rather than guiding politicians properly, which he believes is harmful to society.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that some newly recruited IAS and IPS officers have been interfering in civil disputes, which he called an “unfortunate” trend. He stressed the importance of field visits by senior officials, which was once a common practice. In earlier times, IAS officers interacted closely with the public and were remembered for their efficiency. However, today, many prefer to stay in their air-conditioned offices rather than engaging with people. He noted that public interaction has reduced significantly at the Secretariat level and asked the Chief Secretary to record this issue in the service book, expressing his dissatisfaction with the current system.

CM Orders Seminars for New Bureaucrats

To improve the efficiency of new bureaucrats, CM Revanth Reddy announced that the Chief Secretary would be instructed to organize seminars. These sessions will allow experienced officers like M Gopalakrishna to share their insights and guide new recruits toward better administration. He assured that the government would recognize the work of dedicated officials and encouraged them to be proactive in helping the poor. He emphasized that only efficient and committed officials would earn the respect of the people.

The CM also highlighted the contributions of three prominent leaders—Sankaran, TN Seshan, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He praised Sankaran for his dedication, Seshan for bringing transparency to elections, and Manmohan Singh for leading India’s economic development. These figures, he said, should serve as role models for today’s bureaucrats.
