OU’s 84th graduation ceremony set for August 19

HYDERABAD: The university is gearing up for its 84th Convocation on August 19 at the Tagore Auditorium, where achievements of students and contributions of notable individuals will be celebrated, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram.

On Wednesday, Prof. Kumar, along with Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, OSD to VC Prof. S. Jithendra Kumar Naik, Controller of Examinations Prof. Shashikanth, and other faculty members, shared details about the upcoming event.

This year’s convocation stands out with 1,261 PhD scholars receiving degrees, a rise from the previous 979, showcasing the university’s focus on research. Additionally, 121 gold medals will be awarded to top students from 2022–2023 and 2023–2024.

A new gold medal for tribal scholars will honor the best PhD thesis in English, established by the Chancellor and Governor of Telangana. The Professor Samudrala Satyanarayana Murthy Memorial Gold Medal, created by IAS officer Smt. Sri Devasena, will recognize the leading MBA Finance student.

The university will honor Dr. V. Narayanan, ISRO Director, with its 50th Honorary Doctorate for his exceptional work in India’s space program. He will also give the convocation address as the chief guest.

To ensure smooth proceedings, guidelines include restricted entry to the auditorium for PhD awardees and medalists, live streaming for families, and designated photo areas. Mobile phones and small children are not allowed inside the auditorium.
