The occupancy rates in TSRTC buses in Telangana have increased due to the Mahalaxmi scheme and the upcoming Sankranti festive rush. This has led to a need to increase the bus fleet in the state. On Thursday, there was a surge in commuter traffic at Jubilee bus station and MGBS as people traveled to their hometowns. Despite TSRTC adding more special buses, passengers faced challenges in securing seats on fully occupied buses and complained about the low frequency of services.

The implementation of zero-fare tickets for women and transgenders by TSRTC has resulted in a significant increase in occupancy rates. Recent data shows a rise in the number of passengers from 32 lakh to over 45 lakh. However, this has also led to feedback from passengers requesting improved bus frequency. Some passengers expressed their frustration at being unable to book tickets due to heavy rush during the festival season.

TSRTC officials expect the number of passengers this year to be higher than previous years due to the Mahalakshmi scheme. To handle the festive rush, necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safe transportation of citizens. Additional special buses have been added, with a total of 4,484 buses operating to various destinations. TSRTC has also set up mobile toilets and a small health camp at bus stations for emergency purposes.
