Hyderabad: A man aged 33 was detained by the Hyderabad Cyber Crimes team for distributing misleading and sensitive content online. This material could potentially disturb public peace and increase tensions between communities. The police revealed that the suspect intended to incite religious conflict by creating provocative images, some of which were sexually explicit and controversial. He criticized his own religion and shared these posts on social media using false identities.
On August 23, a complainant noticed disturbing altered images while browsing platforms like Instagram and Facebook. These images, produced with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), were shared online. RG Siva Maruthi, the ACP of Cyber Crimes, stated that the posts were made using fake profiles. They included offensive remarks against a specific community and were sexually explicit, aiming to provoke tension and disrupt harmony, especially in Hyderabad City.
The authorities registered a case under sections 67(A) of the IT Act and Sec: 196(1), 299 BNS. The accused was arrested and placed in judicial remand. Investigations revealed he created fake social media accounts resembling those of other communities to spread the content. As a result, around 1,500 people followed these accounts, believing the posts to be genuine.
