Nirmal, Telangana – Police in Nirmal district cracked down on underage driving on Sunday as part of a road safety campaign led by Superintendent of Police Dr. G Janaki Sharmila.

Police teams at various stations throughout the district checked for minors illegally driving vehicles. They registered around 100 cases of underage driving and seized about 100 vehicles. During the operation, officers provided counselling to 296 minors, led by Avinash Kumar, ASP of Bhainsa, and Rajesh Meena, ASP of Nirmal.

A follow-up counselling session will happen on Tuesday at the district headquarters. Additional SP Upender Reddy will lead this second round.

SP Dr. Sharmila warned parents and vehicle owners to be more responsible. “If you allow children to ride or drive vehicles, you will face legal action under the Motor Vehicle Act,” she said. “These cases can cause serious problems for families in the future.”

She stressed that giving vehicles to minors encourages reckless and high-speed driving, which can lead to accidents and put others at risk. “We must take road safety seriously,” she added.

The SP also explained that traffic fines are not just penalties—they are tools to promote safer driving habits. “If someone is fined once, they should learn from it and avoid repeating the mistake,” she said.

Police will continue to monitor and act against underage driving to ensure safer roads in the district.
