Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy criticized President Draupadi Murmu for not meeting with Telangana leaders about the BC reservation issue, calling it an insult to the state. He announced that the Telangana Congress would soon devise a strategy at a Political Affairs Committee meeting in Hyderabad to challenge both BJP and BRS. He questioned why MPs from these parties skipped the Mahadharna on August 6.

In a press conference in New Delhi with his cabinet, Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana citizens are watching the actions of BRS and BJP, and the Congress plans to highlight their shortcomings. He discussed whether to decide on a 42% reservation within the party before local body elections or consider other solutions, noting that these elections are due by September 30.

Revanth dismissed concerns over Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge missing the recent protest. He responded to Kishan Reddy‘s inquiries about the caste survey by offering to clarify the process, which involved collecting data on all castes. He blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for blocking their meeting with the President, calling it a disrespect to Telangana’s people.

The Chief Minister accused the BJP of halting the proposed increase in BC quotas by the Telangana government, falsely claiming it included Muslims. He clarified that the Telangana BC quota bills sent for presidential approval were not based on religion or caste. In local body elections, SC, ST, and OBC quotas are allocated collectively.

Revanth cited the example of Abdul Sattar, a Muslim selected for IAS under the OBC quota in Rajasthan in 2017, and noted that BC reservations have been available to groups like Noorbasha since 1971.
