    The state government has announced that it will be dropping the treason cases against Prof Haragopal and five other individuals. The police will file a memo in court to confirm this decision. The others involved in the case are Padmaja Shah, V Raghunath, Gaddam Laxman, Ganti Ravinder, and Suresh Kumar.

    The state government made this decision after receiving appeals from various groups. They instructed the Director General of Police, Anjani Kumar, to withdraw the cases registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against the individuals.

    On August 19, 2022, a treason case was registered against Prof Haragopal and 152 other activists and intellectuals. The charges against them included offences under the UAPA, Arms Act, and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. However, with the Chief Minister’s directive, the government has decided to withdraw the UAPA cases against them.
