Hyderabad: Congress leader T Jagga Reddy praised the Mahalakshmi scheme, saying it revived TGSRTC and fulfilled a promise made by Rahul Gandhi. He credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for turning that promise into reality.
Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Jagga Reddy criticized K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for staying silent and inactive over the last 16 months. He questioned why KCR, instead of addressing public concerns, stayed at his farmhouse and skipped important Assembly discussions.
Reddy challenged KCR and the BRS party's claims about the crop loan waiver. He invited KCR to an open debate, asking him to name a village where the scheme hasn’t been implemented. According to Reddy, the Congress government waived off ₹22,000 crore in farm loans within a year—more than the ₹20,000 crore KCR’s government waived in 11 years.
He said the people now have a clear choice between CM Revanth Reddy and former CM KCR. Reddy also highlighted the public support for the fine rice distribution scheme, introduced by Revanth Reddy and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Jagga Reddy strongly defended the free bus travel for women under the Mahalakshmi scheme. Responding to KCR’s criticism, he said the free service has helped countless women travel safely and affordably. “Some may be upset about not getting a seat, but many women are grateful,” he stated.
He blamed the previous government for pushing RTC into financial trouble. In contrast, he said the Congress-led initiative gave the transport corporation a much-needed boost. “Rahul Gandhi made the promise, and Revanth Reddy delivered it. That’s why RTC is doing better today,” he said.
Reddy believes KCR’s harsh comments stem from frustration over the scheme’s success. He accused the BRS leader of opposing the welfare program simply because it benefits the Congress politically.
Addressing women directly, Jagga Reddy asked if they wanted the free bus service to continue. “KCR doesn’t support it, but crores of women are using it every day. Is helping them wrong?” he asked, adding that women farmers from Sangareddy are now able to reach Gudimalkapur market easily.
He urged KCR to clearly state his stand—should the government stop a scheme that’s helping so many?
