Hyderabad took a strong step on Tuesday to make its streets safer and more walkable. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) cleared several illegal structures that were blocking footpaths in the Mehdipatnam area.
Acting on public complaints, HYDRA used heavy equipment to remove unauthorized stalls and shops near the Old Prince Hotel. Popular spots like Milan Juice Centre, Tafree Cafe, and MN Pan Shop were among those taken down. These businesses had set up structures on footpaths, leaving little space for pedestrians.
Earlier, HYDRA had acted in Vanasthalipuram, where a private ice cream company had built illegal structures on a key road. This road connects several residential colonies. After local residents raised concerns, HYDRA investigated and found the company had placed unauthorized precast buildings. Demolition in that area is still ongoing.
In another recent effort, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) cleared more than ten illegal setups on footpaths in Sri Ram Nagar, Kondapur. These actions are part of a broader drive to reclaim public spaces and improve pedestrian safety across the city.
Officials say the crackdown will continue to ensure footpaths stay clear and accessible to all.
