Hyderabad: The plan to expand the state Cabinet, appoint a new PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) chief, and select candidates for nominated posts has been temporarily put on hold by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). This delay is due to the ongoing Rajya Sabha bypolls.

The party had initially expected that these decisions would be made when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy visited Delhi on August 16. It was anticipated that the party high command would announce the new PCC chief and approve the Cabinet expansion during this visit.

However, the party leadership, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary K C Venugopal, requested state leaders to be patient for a little longer. The top party leaders are currently occupied with the bypolls and have asked for more time before making any major decisions.

In the meantime, the main contenders for the PCC president position, such as MLC B Mahesh Kumar Goud, PCC campaign committee chairman Madhu Yashki Goud, MP Balram Naik, and former MP M Anjan Kumar Yadav, are actively lobbying for the role. Each of these leaders brings their own strengths and represents different communities.

For example, Yadav represents the BC (Backward Classes) communities, while Balram Naik, who comes from the Tribal community and has served as a Union minister, claims to be the most experienced among the contenders.

Additionally, other leaders, like state Mahila Congress president G Sunitha Rao, have been making emotional public appeals for key positions in Corporations. Rao highlighted the number of cases filed against her for participating in demonstrations and urged the high command to prioritize those who have been long-time party workers rather than those who recently joined the party.
