Hyderabad: On Sunday, the long-anticipated expansion of the State Cabinet took place. Three new ministers joined the Cabinet in a ceremony at Raj Bhavan, where Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oaths. The new ministers are G Vivek Venkataswamy from Chennur, Adluri Laxman Kumar from Dharmapuri, and Vakiti Srihari from Makthal.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with other Cabinet members and Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, attended the event. Vivek Venkataswamy took his oath in English, while the others did so in Telugu.
This marks the first expansion since the Cabinet’s initial formation on December 7, 2023, which included the Chief Minister and 11 other ministers. The expansion came after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) approved the three new ministers’ names.
Currently, there are still three open positions in the Cabinet. Though the state can have up to 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister, the leadership has chosen not to fill these spots yet. With this recent expansion, the Telangana Cabinet now has 15 members.
The current Cabinet is diverse, with four from the Reddy community, four from Scheduled Castes (SCs), three from Backward Classes (BCs), and one each from Velama, Brahmin, Kamma, and SC communities.
There are rumors that another Cabinet expansion might happen soon, as many hopeful candidates are eager to become ministers.
