Hyderabad is set to become an eco-friendly and pollution-free city, thanks to a new plan by the state government. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department to create practical strategies for this goal.
To lower pollution, the Chief Minister wants industries causing pollution in the city center to move to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area. He compared rising pollution in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to a warning for Hyderabad and urged officials to prevent similar issues.
During a high-level meeting on Tuesday, Revanth Reddy asked for a study of other polluted cities to help shape plans for making Hyderabad the best eco-friendly city in the country.
One suggestion includes banning single-use plastics and controlling construction waste dumping. Violators will face strict penalties. Officials are also tasked with creating detailed plans to improve underground drainage and cabling.
Revanth Reddy asked about the Metro Rail progress in the Old City and insisted on speeding up the work since funds are already available. He warned against delays in approving other Metro rail phases.
The Chief Minister urged cooperation with the Union Urban Development Department to finish projects quickly. He also called for the rapid construction of the elevated corridor from Paradise junction to Shamirpet ORR and the Musi Riverfront project from Himayat Sagar to Gandhi Sarovar.
Revanth Reddy proposed constructing a landmark at Kothwalguda junction on the ORR near Musi, similar to the India Gate or Gateway of India. He suggested building bridge-cum-barrages on Musi.
He reviewed development at Nehru Zoo Park and Mir Alam Tank and ordered Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) near Mir Alam Tank. Plans for a luxury hotel with modern facilities near the Zoo Park to offer a panoramic view were also discussed.
The performance of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board was evaluated, with directives to reform the water supply and sewage systems.
