Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered officials to move people from low-lying areas near overflowing projects like Sripada Yellampalli, Mid Manair, and Upper Manair due to expected heavy rains in the next two days.
He warned that the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages, described as “poorly built,” might break and flood nearby areas if filled, given the heavy flow in the Godavari river.
On Thursday, the Chief Minister flew over flood-affected districts like Nirmal, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Medak, and Sircilla. He checked the situation at the Sripada Yellampalli project and asked about the Goliwada Pump House in Peddapalli district.
He told the Irrigation Department to ensure that none of the projects overflow due to the heavy inflows. Rescue efforts in flooded areas must begin immediately. Revanth Reddy also asked officials to consider repairing the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla projects as advised by experts, as their poor design and management demand extra caution to protect nearby residents.
The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary to quickly plan compensation for victims, including farmers who lost crops. He stressed the importance of being prepared for natural disasters to prevent damage to property, crops, and lives. He urged people to be careful since heavy rains and floods are causing streams and rivulets to overflow in Medak district.
To improve disaster management, the Chief Minister suggested building permanent high-level bridges and documenting flood impacts using photos and videos. He emphasized the importance of educating the public on safety during heavy rains.
