Hyderabad: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office in Manikonda, Telangana, has made Rs 52.6 lakh by auctioning fancy vehicle number plates. These special number plates are very popular in the city, with many people and companies willing to pay large amounts of money to get them. Owning a unique number is seen as a status symbol.
Among the numbers auctioned, ‘TG 07 R 9999’ was the most expensive. It was bought by Congruent Developers, a real estate company, for a record price of Rs 12,49,999.
Other high-priced numbers included ‘TG 07 AA 0009’, which was purchased by Rudra Infrastructures Pvt Ltd for Rs 8.5 lakh. Another number, ‘TG 07 AA 0001’, was sold to Fuji Software Solutions for Rs 4.77 lakh.
RTA officials said that people in Hyderabad are still very interested in having personalised or lucky number plates. These plates are often chosen for reasons like prestige, beliefs about good luck, or to match a company’s brand.
Because of this growing demand, the transport department expects strong interest in future auctions. Fancy number plates have become an important source of income for the department.
