Hyderabad: Senior IAS officer Sandeep Kumar Sultania will officially become the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department on Wednesday, stepping in for Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, who had been handling the role as an additional responsibility.
Rao had served as Finance Secretary for over 10 years. During his long tenure, he played a vital role in navigating the state through several tough financial crises.
Now, as the economic slowdown and a dip in the real estate sector continue to affect revenue, Sultania faces a tough road ahead. His main task will be to ensure the state has enough funds to meet its growing financial needs.
According to official sources, the government has given Sultania full freedom to explore new ways of raising funds during the current financial year. His efforts will be crucial in helping the administration move forward with its key promises.
The state needs nearly ₹40,000 crore over the next six months to deliver on several major welfare schemes. These include Indiramma Housing, Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, Rythu Bharosa, and various women empowerment programs.
Shortly after his appointment was announced, Sultania met with Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. The two discussed the state’s current financial health and the urgent steps that need to be taken.
Officials added that Sultania is also expected to consult with Ramakrishna Rao, who introduced several key financial strategies earlier this year. Rao’s experience could provide valuable support as the new Finance Secretary takes charge.
