Hyderabad – The Telangana state government is now closely watching the work of its top officials. After facing serious setbacks in key departments, newly-appointed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao has taken firm control. He has ordered all department Secretaries to set clear goals and bring in fresh ideas to improve public services and raise funds.
Rao, with over a decade of experience in the Finance Department, is known for his strong grasp on revenue generation. Now, he’s using that expertise to push every department, especially those responsible for collecting money through taxes and fees.
He has asked departments like Commercial Taxes, Transport, Stamps & Registrations, Excise, and Mining to submit detailed reports. These reports must explain how much revenue they are collecting, what problems they face, and how they plan to meet new targets.
This move comes right after a meeting held by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Revenue Mobilization, which focused on boosting income from government departments. Following the meeting, Rao met with senior officials to review current performance and understand the roadblocks.
Officials say the Chief Secretary is not holding back. He is setting monthly targets and expects each department to meet them. If Secretaries fail to perform, they may be replaced. Regular performance reviews will decide who stays in charge.
Departments that don’t directly generate revenue aren’t off the hook either. Rao has instructed heads of Welfare, Education, Health, Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration, Agriculture, Housing, Civil Supplies, Tourism, and Youth Services to regularly update him on their progress.
Important welfare programs like Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, fine rice distribution, Indiramma housing, and the issuing of new ration cards will be monitored closely. Officials must submit regular reports on how these schemes are running. If there are any delays or problems, the Chief Secretary will step in with fresh directions.
With Telangana facing a financial crunch, Rao is determined to bring discipline and innovation into the system. His main goal: increase revenue, improve efficiency, and ensure that every government scheme reaches the people.
