Hyderabad is seeing a shift in buying trends this Akshaya Tritiya. As gold prices hit record highs, more people are turning to silver instead.
On Tuesday, the price of gold climbed to nearly ₹1 lakh per 10 grams. In comparison, silver was priced at just ₹1,120 for 10 grams. The huge price gap is pushing many buyers toward the more affordable option.
According to the Telangana Gold and Silver Jewellery Association, most shoppers are now choosing lighter gold ornaments instead of heavier pieces. Some stores are offering deals like old-for-new jewelry exchanges to attract buyers, but the high cost of gold is keeping many away.
Jewelry shops across Hyderabad have noticed the change. “Gold prices are at a historic high this year,” said Anvesh Agarwal from Oro Jewels. “Because of that, more customers are buying silver items instead.”
A staff member at New DM Jewellers in Secunderabad shared a similar view. “Buying precious metals during Akshaya Tritiya is a tradition. However, this year, we’ve seen a drop in gold sales and a big jump in silver sales,” they said.
With silver now in high demand, many jewellers are focusing on offering a wider variety of silver ornaments and gift items to meet the changing preferences of customers.
