Sircilla: The Sri Rama Navami celebrations began on Sunday at the Vemulawada Sri Rajarajeswara Swamy temple, which is the largest Shaivite temple in Telangana. The festivities started with a traditional ritual called Swasti Punyaha, performed by the temple priests at the temple of Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy. The event was led by the temple’s head priest, Appala Bhima Shankar Sharma.
On the occasion of the Ugadi festival, a special ritual called Mahanyasa Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam was performed for Sri Rajarajeswara Swamy. This was done while chanting sacred Vedic mantras. Later, a special prayer was held for the Sri Visvavasu Nama Panchangam (a traditional calendar) in the temple’s Kalyana Mandapam (wedding hall).
Starting Sunday, special prayers and rituals will continue for nine days. On April 6, the grand celebration of Sri Sitarama Kalyanam (the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita) will take place.
Meanwhile, the Ugadi New Year celebrations were also held in a festive manner. Many devotees gathered at the temple to get a glimpse of the deity. In the evening, a reading of the Panchangam (Hindu calendar) was conducted by temple priest Chandragiri Sarath Sharma.
