Hyderabad: The Telangana government is launching a major skilling program on September 25 to help thousands of engineering and non-engineering students get jobs in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector.
This initiative, the first of its kind in India, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The goal is to provide students with the skills they need to work in the banking and insurance industries.
The state has also recently established the Telangana Young India Skill University, which will begin offering courses next month. The government has committed Rs 100 crore to support this university.
To enhance job readiness, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has partnered with the BFSI Consortium. This partnership aims to integrate industry-specific knowledge into undergraduate programs, helping students gain skills relevant to the BFSI sector.
In the pilot phase, 20 non-engineering and 18 engineering colleges (mostly autonomous) have been selected. Around 10,000 students—5,000 from engineering and 5,000 from non-engineering backgrounds—will be trained. The first batch, starting in 2024-25, will receive the training at no cost, thanks to support from CSR partner EQUIPPP.
For non-engineering colleges, the BFSI curriculum will be introduced as a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) and Generic Electives (GE). In engineering colleges, it will be offered as a Minor Degree Program and an Accelerated Course. The BFSI industry has provided the curriculum, which has already been approved by the relevant academic boards.
The courses will be delivered in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online learning. Students will receive digital certification upon completing the program, and internships will be available for eligible students. IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu will oversee the implementation of the program.
