A man accused of assaulting a female police officer on a train last month has died in a police confrontation in Ayodhya. Two other men were injured and are receiving medical treatment. The encounter happened on Friday in the Inayat Nagar area, carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Lucknow Special Task Force (STF). The man who died was identified as Aneesh. Authorities suspect that the other two injured men, Azad Khan and Vishambhar Dayal, may also be involved in the assault on the female police officer.

The incident with the woman constable occurred on August 30 when she was found unconscious and seriously injured in a train compartment at Ayodhya station. Her face had been violently attacked, resulting in skull fractures. She was taken to Lucknow’s KGMC hospital and her condition is stable. Her identity was not disclosed.

According to officials, the female police officer got into an argument with the accused men over a train seat. The altercation began at Mankapur station and escalated into a brutal attack as the train gained speed. The attackers got off at Ayodhya station and fled the scene.

After the constable’s brother filed a complaint, an FIR was registered and an investigation was launched. On September 4, Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker of the Allahabad High Court took action upon receiving a WhatsApp message about the incident. He formed a bench with Justice Srivastava and reprimanded the Railway Police Force for their perceived failure in fulfilling their duties during the investigation.
