Hyderabad – Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand conducted a comprehensive review of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and assessed the state’s technology-driven approach to combating cybercrime. During his visit, the DGP inspected the Cyber Lab, Security Operations Centre, Digital Forensic Unit, and an AI-powered Cyber Call Centre that can interact with victims, capture critical information, and instantly alert jurisdictional police stations. The CSB Director and her team briefed him on the cybercrime landscape, key trends, and technology adoption across various units.
The data for 2025 presented a mixed picture of progress and ongoing challenges. Cybercrime complaints declined by 3%, and financial losses reduced by nearly 20% compared to the previous year. The bureau successfully froze ₹279 crore in fraudulent transactions. Telangana registered 21,639 cybercrime FIRs, accounting for 44% of all such FIRs in the country, reflecting strong citizen reporting and proactive enforcement by the state police.
However, the review also highlighted serious concerns. Cyber offences now account for one in every four major crime FIRs in Telangana, causing financial losses of ₹1,524 crore. CV Anand noted that the state has been lagging behind on some parameters being reviewed by the Prime Minister and the Government of India. He directed officers to update software systems, feed data properly, and improve the state’s rankings at the national level.
The DGP emphasized that cybercriminals continue to target citizens through investment frauds, trading scams, digital arrest scams, and other sophisticated methods that rob ordinary families of their lifetime savings. He directed the bureau to further expand AI-driven citizen services, strengthen advanced analytics and specialised investigation capabilities, and ensure every officer continuously upgrades technological skills to stay ahead of emerging threats. He also instructed the bureau to actively support police units across the state in cybercrime investigations.
CV Anand stated that Telangana must emerge as the national benchmark in cyber policing. He issued a direct appeal to citizens, warning them that cybercriminals often lure victims with promises of easy and high returns. He advised citizens to pause and verify if an offer appears too good to be true and urged them to report cyber fraud immediately on the helpline number 1930.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has been at the forefront of adopting technology-driven solutions to combat the rising tide of digital crimes. With the state accounting for nearly half of all cybercrime FIRs registered in the country, the police department is focusing on enhancing its technological capabilities and training programs to protect citizens from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The bureau continues to work on improving response times and recovery rates for victims of financial fraud.
