The Telangana State government has decided to set up a new body called the Telangana Education Commission (TEC). This commission will be responsible for creating a plan to improve the quality of education in the state, from pre-primary levels all the way up to university education.
The government announced this decision on Tuesday, explaining that the TEC is being formed to bring about necessary changes in the education sector. These changes are needed to keep up with the fast-evolving educational environment. The government emphasized that improving the quality of education is a top priority, and that revamping the education system is crucial for the future of the state.
To achieve this goal, the TEC will focus on various aspects of education, such as teaching methods, how learning is assessed, and the infrastructure needed for schools and universities. The commission will also look at the need for more or fewer educational institutions. The TEC will consider how all these elements impact the overall quality of education, noting that if the state does not keep up with these changes, it could negatively affect future generations.
The TEC will have a chairman and three members who are experts in education. There will also be a high-ranking official who will act as the member secretary, helping to coordinate the commission’s activities. The commission will consult with different stakeholders and may bring in experts or professionals to help them meet their goals. Additionally, it can use employees from the education department on a temporary basis to assist with its work.
The non-official members of the commission will serve for two years, and the TEC will receive funding from the state budget as well as from grants and contributions from various sources, including partnerships with the private sector. This funding will cover expenses such as salaries, administrative costs, and payments to experts. The money will also be used for meetings and discussions with expert groups.
The TEC will function as an advisory body, similar to the existing Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). Its role will be to provide policy advice to the government, and it will also contribute by conducting brainstorming sessions, pilot studies, and consultations. The commission will help develop policy notes, guidelines, and rules, and will facilitate exposure visits to gather insights for improving the state’s education system.
