Gadwal: The Telangana government has launched a Loan Waiver Scheme to help handloom workers by reducing their debt. This initiative targets weavers who took personal loans between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2024.
According to the government order G.O. Rt. No. 56, dated March 9, 2025, the Industries and Commerce Department (Textiles Wing) and the Commissionerate of Handlooms and Textiles, Hyderabad have informed eligible weavers about the scheme.
The scheme will cancel personal loans for handloom workers but includes conditions. If a weaver’s loan is over ₹1 lakh as of March 31, 2024, they must repay the amount above ₹1 lakh themselves. They need to show proof of this repayment and submit their loan details to the Assistant Director, Handlooms and Textiles Department in Jogulamba Gadwal District. The deadline for this submission is July 6, 2025.
Only weavers who meet these requirements will be approved for the scheme by the District Level Committee (DLC). Banks have already provided information about weavers’ loans, and officials are reviewing this data to ensure it matches the scheme’s guidelines.
Officials emphasize that missing the submission deadline will lead to disqualification from the scheme. Handloom workers are advised to act quickly to benefit from this financial support.
This scheme is part of Telangana’s efforts to support the handloom sector, protect traditional jobs, and ease financial burdens on skilled artisans.
