The Telangana State Government has released ₹277 crore to Gram Panchayats across the state as a special festive gesture on the occasion of Sankranti. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu approved the release of funds while extending festival greetings to newly elected Sarpanches on behalf of the state government. The Finance Department officials released the substantial amount to Gram Panchayats on Monday, marking a significant boost to local governance institutions during the harvest festival celebrations.
A crucial meeting of Finance Department officials was convened on Monday at Praja Bhavan to facilitate the fund release. The meeting was attended by Finance Department Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania along with other senior officials from the department. The gathering focused on ensuring the smooth and timely disbursal of the allocated funds to the respective Gram Panchayats across Telangana.
The fund release comes at a strategically important time for rural local bodies, coinciding with the Sankranti festival celebrations. The timing of the announcement demonstrates the state government’s commitment to supporting grassroots democratic institutions and ensuring that local bodies have adequate financial resources to function effectively. The ₹277 crore allocation is expected to strengthen the financial position of Gram Panchayats and enable them to undertake development activities at the village level.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu used the occasion to extend Sankranti greetings to Gram Panchayat Sarpanches and Ward Members throughout the state. The gesture reflects the government’s recognition of the crucial role played by elected representatives at the grassroots level in implementing welfare schemes and development programs. The fund release also signals the administration’s focus on empowering local self-governance institutions.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local self-governance through this financial assistance. The substantial fund allocation to Gram Panchayats is part of the government’s broader strategy to decentralize administration and ensure that village-level institutions have the necessary resources to address local needs effectively. The move is expected to enhance the capacity of rural local bodies to deliver services and implement development initiatives in their respective jurisdictions.
