A committee set up by the Central government to decide on removing civil areas from Secunderabad Cantonment has not given its report to Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari yet. She mentioned this during a video conference with Union Defence Secretary A Giridhar.

The Union Defence Secretary held a video conference with officials from various State governments to discuss removing civil areas from Cantonments and merging them with Municipalities. He urged state officials to speed up this process, as the Union government wants to get rid of cantonment boards, which are reminders of British rule.

Santhi Kumari stated that Telangana has agreed to the Union government’s plan to remove civil areas from the Secunderabad Cantonment Board and merge them with GHMC. She also mentioned that the state government wants to finish this quickly, but the Central government committee has not shared its report yet. The state government will cooperate with the Central government to move things along.
