The State government in Hyderabad is working to appoint a regular Director of Medical Education (DME) through the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) soon. The seniority list and any disciplinary cases are currently being reviewed by the DPC.
After Andhra Pradesh was divided, the DME position was given to that state. However, Telangana did not have its own DME until 2023, almost nine years later. Dr. K Ramesh Reddy acted as an in-charge DME during this time. Due to a court order, the regular DME post was finally sanctioned in 2023.
The DME position now needs to be filled through a regular DPC, which was not previously in place. The DPC was formed on February 2, 2024, but the Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha elections delayed the process. The seniority lists and DPC proposal were submitted on March 23.
The Congress government made temporary arrangements for the DME post based on seniority and with approval from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. However, these arrangements were challenged in court. Once the election MCC period ends, the process will be expedited to appoint a regular DME.
