Hyderabad: In a major step to promote organic farming and transparent food supply chains, the Telangana government is set to launch the “TG Organics” mobile application on May 4, enabling consumers to directly purchase organic produce from certified farmers.
The app will be officially launched by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao in Tandur, marking a new phase in the state’s efforts to strengthen the organic agriculture ecosystem.
Direct Link Between Farmers and Buyers
The TG Organics platform is designed to eliminate middlemen by creating a direct connection between farmers and consumers. Buyers will be able to browse, select, and purchase products directly from government-certified organic farmers.
Officials say this initiative will ensure better prices for farmers while giving consumers access to authentic, chemical-free food products.
Key Features of the App
- 500+ farmers already onboarded
- 100+ organic products available at launch
- Location-based search within a 50 km radius
- Direct communication between buyers and farmers
- Only certified organic farmers are allowed on the platform
The app will also help users identify nearby farmers, making it easier to access fresh produce and reduce transportation delays.
Crackdown on Fake Organic Products
Authorities have highlighted that one of the main objectives of the platform is to curb the sale of fake or mislabeled organic products in the market. By allowing only verified farmers, the government aims to build consumer trust and ensure quality standards.
Growing Organic Farming in Telangana
Telangana has been witnessing steady growth in organic agriculture. According to official estimates:
- More than 10,000 farmers are engaged in organic cultivation
- Nearly 50,000 acres are under organic certification or transition
The government has been promoting sustainable farming practices through training programs, certification support, and market linkages.
Boost to Rural Economy
Experts believe that platforms like TG Organics can significantly improve farmer incomes by reducing dependency on intermediaries and ensuring fair pricing.
With increasing demand for healthy and chemical-free food, the app is expected to gain traction among urban consumers, particularly in cities like Hyderabad.
The launch is seen as part of Telangana’s broader strategy to promote sustainable agriculture, digital marketplaces, and farmer empowerment.
