The Telangana State Government has announced a major reorganisation of its police administration, establishing four Police Commissionerates to replace the existing three. This restructuring aims to ensure better public services, effective law and order maintenance, and improved crime control across the state.
The new police structure includes Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates. This decision comes as part of the broader reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the development of Future City.
The reorganisation follows the release of the Telangana Rising – Vision 2047 document on the 9th of this month at the Telangana Rising Global Summit. The government aims to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047 through a strategic approach dividing the state into three zones: CURE, PURE, and RARE.
As part of this vision, 27 municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) have been merged into the GHMC through legal amendments. The GHMC area has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards.
The Hyderabad Commissionerate will cover key locations including the Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport, and Budvel High Court.
The Cyberabad Commissionerate will oversee rapidly developing IT hubs such as Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, and Raidurg. It will also include industrial areas like Patancheru, Genome Valley, RC Puram, and Ameenpur.
The former Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised and renamed as the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, covering areas such as Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur, and Kompally.
A significant change includes the exclusion of Bhuvanagiri district from the commissionerate system. The area will now function as a separate police unit, with a Superintendent of Police (SP) to be appointed for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
The newly created Future City Commissionerate will cover areas experiencing rapid development, including Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam.
The government has issued orders appointing Police Commissioners for the four commissionerates and an SP for Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, marking a significant step towards strengthening policing and governance in the state.
