The Telangana Transport Department has seized 3,420 vehicles in just 10 days during an intensive enforcement drive aimed at curbing traffic violations and preventing fatal accidents across the state.

The department’s newly formed enforcement teams booked 4,748 cases through surprise checks conducted at various locations. The crackdown comes in response to a series of accidents that claimed multiple lives in recent weeks.

Overloading has emerged as the biggest red flag during these inspections. Authorities have announced strict action against repeat offenders, including permit cancellation and licence cancellation.

The Telangana government recently established a robust enforcement mechanism to tackle road safety violations. The system includes 33 district-level enforcement teams and 3 state-level flying squads dedicated to conducting surprise inspections.

These teams receive their inspection locations every morning at 6 AM to ensure no advance information leaks out. The strategy prevents violators from getting tipped off and ensures effective enforcement on the ground.

The enforcement teams have a clear mandate: conduct surprise checks, catch violations on the spot, and prevent overloading before it leads to fatal accidents on state roads.

In addition to the crackdown, the department has planned several long-term measures to improve road safety. Heavy-vehicle drivers will be required to undergo refresher training to update their knowledge of safety protocols and traffic regulations.

The Transport Department is also tightening coordination with the Mining Department to address the overloading problem at its source. The joint effort aims to stop overloading right at the loading point, preventing violations before vehicles hit the road.

Looking ahead, the state has designated January as Road Safety Month. The month-long campaign will involve students, drivers, and local communities in awareness programs focused on safe driving practices.

The comprehensive approach combines strict enforcement with education and inter-departmental cooperation. The Transport Department aims to create a sustained impact on road safety rather than conducting isolated checks.

The surprise inspection model has proven effective in catching violators who previously exploited predictable enforcement patterns. The daily randomized location system keeps potential offenders uncertain and encourages compliance with traffic rules.
