The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has given the green signal to a series of ambitious infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across Hyderabad. The civic body’s recent approval covers multiple flyovers, underpasses, road expansions, and grade separators at key junctions throughout the city.
Among the significant projects approved is the construction of a four-lane unidirectional road at Rasoolpura Junction, which will require the acquisition of 26 properties. The corporation has also sanctioned the development of a left-arm down ramp from Owaisi Junction flyover towards Santosh Nagar, addressing a critical traffic bottleneck in the area.
The GHMC has approved flyover and underpass works at NFCL Junction and TV9 Junction to streamline vehicle movement. Additionally, the construction of flyovers and grade separators at Rethibowli and Nanalnagar Junctions has been cleared, which will involve acquiring 106 properties. These projects are expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters in the western parts of the city.
The civic body has granted administrative approval for a parallel Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Falaknuma and sanctioned the renovation of the existing Fatehnagar flyover. The reconstruction of Afzal Sagar Nala has also been approved as part of the city’s drainage improvement initiatives. These works aim to enhance both traffic flow and stormwater management in the Old City area.
In a tribute to the former Prime Minister, the GHMC has approved the installation of a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Barkatpura Junction. The corporation has also given the go-ahead for a six-lane grade separator at Mailardevpally-Shamshabad Road-Katedan Junctions, a crucial corridor connecting the city to the international airport. The construction of Patigadda ROB has also received approval.
In a major financial allocation, the GHMC has earmarked ₹500 crore each to Cyberabad Corporation and Malkajgiri Corporation for infrastructure development. This substantial budget allocation is expected to accelerate civic works and urban development projects in these rapidly expanding zones of the metropolitan region.
These infrastructure approvals come as part of GHMC’s ongoing efforts to modernize Hyderabad’s road network and address mounting traffic challenges. The projects are expected to be implemented in phases, with property acquisitions and land clearances being undertaken as preliminary steps before construction begins.
