Hyderabad:
To highlight the rich heritage and traditions of the Tamil community, the Telangana Tamil Sangam organized the Puramanai Virundhu 2024 (Vanabhojanam) on Sunday.
The event is growing in popularity every year, with around 400 people attending this time. The celebration is inspired by the Telugu tradition of enjoying a picnic during the lunar month of Kartika Masam, where families and friends gather to share a meal outdoors. The word “Vana” means forest or grove, while “Bhojanam” means food, symbolizing a meal shared in a natural setting. The Telangana Tamil Sangam has embraced this custom, adding a Tamil twist to it by serving traditional Tamil food, calling the event Puramanai Virundhu.
Raj Kumar, the secretary of Telangana Tamil Sangam, expressed his happiness about the event’s success. “Each Vanabhojanam brings new ways to celebrate and deepen our connections, offering an immersive experience of Tamil culture to everyone,” he said. The meal for the picnic was specially prepared by a cook from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
In addition to the feast, there were cultural performances, including Bharatanatyam dance and traditional Tamil music, adding to the celebration of Tamil culture.
