Hyderabad: As the assembly elections in Maharashtra draw closer, leaders from the AIMIM party have become prominent campaigners. These leaders, including local MLAs and corporators from Hyderabad, are supporting Maratha candidates representing AIMIM in various constituencies. The party is working hard to secure as many seats as possible out of the 16 it is contesting.
Maharashtra’s election for 288 assembly seats is scheduled for November 20. Despite their responsibilities in Telangana, AIMIM MLAs have already started campaigning in their assigned constituencies in Maharashtra. Key leaders such as Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), Jaffar Hussain Meraj (Yakutpura), Kausar Mohiuddin (Karwan), Mohammed Majid Hussain (Nampally), and the party’s firebrand leader Akbaruddin Owaisi are all actively reaching out to voters in Maharashtra. Several corporators are also working hard to support the campaign.
AIMIM has fielded candidates in various constituencies, including Aurangabad East, Aurangabad Central, Dhule, Malegaon Central, Bhiwandi West, Byculla, Mumbra Kalwa, Versova, Solapur, Miraj, Murtizapur, Nanded South, Kurla, Karanja Manora, Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, and Nagpur North.
According to party sources, Akbar Owaisi Jr. started his tour of Maharashtra on November 5. He addressed an election rally in Aurangabad at Aam Khas Maidan, urging the Marathas and backward communities to join forces with Muslims to fight for their rights. Ahmed Balala accompanied him as they campaigned in Aurangabad, Malegaon, Mohammed Ali Road, Kurla, and Bhiwandi.
Majid Hussain has been assisting AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in his rallies and public meetings across various constituencies. Majid, along with corporators Sohail Quadri (Pathergatti), Naseeruddin (Nanal Nagar), and Hussain Pasha (Kishanbagh), has been campaigning for candidate Faruk Shah Anwar in Dhule since November 6.
Kausar Mohiuddin is supporting Syed Moin, AIMIM’s candidate in Nanded. Jaffer Hussain, along with Uppuguda corporator Fahad Bin Abdat, is backing Mufti Ismail Qasmi, the party candidate in Malegaon, from November 7.
These Hyderabad-based leaders have been organizing door-to-door visits, grand rallies, and public meetings as part of their campaign in Maharashtra. They have been urging voters to support AIMIM by voting for its symbol, the kite, also known as “Patang”.
During their door-to-door campaigns, the leaders claimed to have received positive responses from locals. In some districts, local MLAs were even honored by the residents. They took the opportunity to explain various developmental projects they aim to implement if elected.
As part of the ongoing election campaign, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also organized walking tours (paidal daura) and large public meetings in several constituencies, including Aurangabad East and Central, Dhule, and others.
However, Akbar Owaisi Jr. stirred controversy during a rally in Aurangabad on Tuesday with his infamous “15 minutes” remark. He told the crowd to be patient as there were still 15 minutes left before the rally’s deadline. While his supporters cheered, the BJP criticized his comment.
In another speech in Kurla, Akbar Owaisi criticized the government’s attempt to introduce a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and suggested that a “Uniform Development Code” would be more beneficial.
During his rally in Nashik, Akbar raised questions about a controversial statement made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He also spoke about the discrimination faced by people wearing skull caps or sporting beards, emphasizing that AIMIM stands up for Muslims, Dalits, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Marathas.
