Hyderabad: The Telangana government plans to reclaim 734.07 acres along the Easa River and hand it over to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL).
Reports indicate that land will be reclaimed from areas such as Himayathsagar, Kismathpur in Gandipet Mandal, Premavathipet, Budvel in Rajendranagar Mandal, and Kothwalguda in Shamshabad Mandal of Rangareddy district for the Musi Riverfront Development Project (MRDP).
The current landholders will receive alternative plots in HMDA layouts at Shamshabad and Future City. Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and the Rangareddy District Collector will manage this process.
The transfer includes 128.39 acres from the Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratory, 219.09 acres from the Water and Land Management Training and Research Institute (WALAMTARI), 41.27 acres from the Indian Institute of Public Health, and 99.05 acres from the Extension Training Centre (VDOTC).
Land in Kothwalguda, including HMDA Eco Park and areas under the Tourism Department, is also being reclaimed. The process depends on pending legal outcomes, the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, and specific government regulations.
The MRDP aims to rejuvenate the Musi River over 55 km around Hyderabad. The project focuses on cleaning the river, maintaining water flow, and reducing flood risks. The Musi River, affected by pollution and urban growth, will become a tourist attraction, generating job opportunities.
