Hyderabad has announced a big change in its support for inter-abled marriages. The state government has increased the financial incentive for marriages between a person with a disability and a person without one.
The reward has doubled — from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000. This amount will be given in the wife’s name.
The Department of Women, Children, Disabled, and Senior Citizens issued the new order to encourage inclusivity and social support for persons with disabilities.
To qualify, at least one partner must have a valid disability certificate issued by a recognized Medical Board. The couple must also be residents of Telangana.
Their marriage must be officially registered under Indian marriage laws. Also, the person with a disability should have a minimum of 40% disability, as per government norms.
Importantly, couples must apply for this benefit within one year of their wedding date.
This move aims to promote equality and reduce stigma around disabilities in society.
