Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is pushing forward with major upgrades to the city’s sewage system. On-site, Managing Director Ashok Reddy reviewed the progress of the Zone-3 Sewer Network Project, which aims to modernize the underground drainage infrastructure.
One of the biggest challenges is tunneling under the busy Tolichowki Flyover main road. With constant traffic, carrying out deep excavation—nearly 8 to 11 meters below ground—won’t be easy. To reduce inconvenience to the public, officials suggested finishing this work during the rainy season, when road usage may be lighter.
Ashok Reddy stressed the importance of teamwork. He instructed that all tunneling activity must be done in coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), TRANSCO, and other key departments. Workers must use proper safety gear, install barricades, and follow all safety protocols during the operation.
He also directed teams to repair roads quickly wherever pipeline laying has already been completed, to restore normal traffic flow and prevent accidents.
Another concern is the road leading to the historic Seven Tombs. The MD asked for detailed proposals on how to carry out the tunneling here without damaging nearby residential buildings. Protecting the structural integrity of the area is a top priority.
Ashok Reddy later examined the pipeline expansion work in surrounding neighborhoods to assess progress and ensure quality standards are being maintained.
