Hyderabad: Thermo Fisher Scientific, a Fortune-500 company based in Boston, USA, has signed an agreement with the Telangana Government to build a Bioprocess Design Centre (BDC) in Genome Valley, Hyderabad. This was announced by D Sridhar Babu, the Minister for IT and Industries, on Wednesday.
The new Bioprocess Design Centre will cover an area of 10,000 square feet and is expected to start operating by the first quarter of 2025. The agreement between Thermo Fisher and the government was signed during a meeting at the Minister’s office in the State Secretariat.
The Minister highlighted that this centre will greatly help the local pharma and life sciences sectors by improving their abilities. The facility will include modern laboratories and advanced research areas. Sridhar Babu also noted that Telangana plays a significant role in India’s pharma and life sciences exports, contributing 33 per cent to the country’s total exports in these sectors. He further mentioned that the State’s upcoming Skill University will train skilled workers for the industry.
Currently, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories is providing training to 80 people, helping to reduce the skill gap in the sector. The Minister also shared that the third phase of Genome Valley’s expansion is progressing rapidly, which will encourage more pharma and life sciences companies to start their operations in the area. Additionally, a conference on Artificial Intelligence in pharmacy is set to be held on November 18, he added.
