Hyderabad: Rains in Telangana have claimed the lives of three people, with more expected over the next three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert is in place for heavy rains in northern districts like Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad.

The IMD Hyderabad officials explain that rains are due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and a depression in the Arabian Sea. A low-pressure area in the Bay is causing moderate to heavy showers, with winds between 30-40 kmph. A depression is also moving across south Chhattisgarh, resulting in cloudy skies and continuous rain throughout the state.

In one incident, two individuals fishing at the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) were swept away by strong currents. Syed Feroz, 52, and his nephew Rizwan, 20, from Karimnagar, drowned when Rizwan slipped into the dam and Feroz attempted a rescue. Another 20-year-old died from a lightning strike in Vajedu Mandal, Mulugu.

Other areas like Lonavelli in Sirpur saw 5.7 cm, Bezjuru 5.2 cm, Yelkapalli (Penchikulpet mandal) 3.0 cm, and Ashwaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem 2.6 cm. Rivers such as Kinnerasani, Murredu, Thaliperu, and Jilleru are experiencing heavy inflows in districts like Mulugu, Bhadradri, Khammam, and Bhupalpally, with many low-level bridges submerged.
