Hyderabad has experienced continuous rain for three days, causing significant traffic issues and difficulties for locals. Authorities are on high alert.
The city was covered by clouds, with light to moderate rain happening all day. Areas like Saroornagar, Dilsukhnagar, Malakpet, and Nampally saw rain, along with many other parts such as Kothapet, Secunderabad, and Jubilee Hills.
The rain resulted in severe traffic jams throughout the city. Roads like Nampally to Hitech City were particularly congested, leaving vehicles moving very slowly and people stranded in the rain.
Water levels in the city’s nalas and water bodies have risen due to the ongoing rain. The government instructed officials to act quickly and take preventive steps to manage flooding. The Hyderabad IMD predicts cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and gusty winds for the next two days.
GHMC Commissioner Karnan urged officials to be active on the ground, focusing on issues like water logging and drainage overflow. Plans include keeping de-watering pumps ready near railway under bridges, cleaning catch pits, and ensuring proper removal of silt and garbage.
Officials need to monitor all 141 water-logging spots in GHMC areas to prevent water from accumulating near underpasses. Support from the Water Board is crucial for these tasks.
