Hyderabad: A team of whistleblowers, including Purnima Mandava, advocate Hanumanth Rao, public analyst Srinu, and evidence presenter Pawan, has revealed a troubling increase in fake medical practices in Telangana's wellness and cosmetic industry.
On Tuesday, they shared proof with the media, showing how fake doctorates and impersonation through media are on the rise. They highlighted a video featuring actor Ali, who was deceived by someone pretending to be a doctor. This example illustrated the dangers of unchecked media promotion and misuse of medical titles, which have put public safety at risk and led to widespread confusion.
The group also pointed out misleading billing practices related to GST and explained how many cosmetic and wellness procedures are performed by unqualified people without medical supervision. They raised concerns about social media influencers being used to discredit whistleblowers and suppress public criticism. Plans for legal actions, including Public Interest Litigations (PILs) and complaints under broadcasting and consumer protection laws, are underway.
This effort is backed by professionals from various sectors, such as doctors, entrepreneurs, IIT and IIM alumni, tax experts, and public health advocates. The group made it clear that their motive is not business competition but a shared desire to bring back ethics and accountability in the wellness and cosmetic field.
They emphasized their dedication to safeguarding consumers and confronting unsafe practices disguised as medical expertise.
