Nagarkurnool is focusing on empowering women to drive societal progress. MLA Dr. Rajesh Reddy emphasized that women’s self-confidence is crucial for development. Achampet MLA Dr. Vamshikrishna added that the government aims to honor and respect women.
The Indira Mahila Shakti event took place on Sunday at the Teegala Venkata Swamy Kalyana Mandapam in the district. During this celebration, cheques totaling Rs 14.22 crores were given to 254 women self-help groups in Nagarkurnool. Additionally, 2,568 members received cheques worth Rs 3.03 crores. Accident insurance cheques of Rs 50 lakh were distributed to five members, while 28 members received loan insurance cheques totaling Rs 17.40 lakhs.
Dr. Rajesh highlighted that women’s confidence is vital for a thriving society. The government is actively supporting women through various welfare schemes, focusing on self-employment, strengthening self-help groups, and improving education and healthcare access. Women’s empowerment is seen as key to Telangana’s future.
Dr. Vamshikrishna mentioned the evolution of women-centric schemes. In 1992, Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao launched the DWCRA scheme. In 1996, it was renamed the “Velugu” scheme by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. From 2004 to 2014, Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy continued it as IKP (Indira Kranthi Patham), significantly advancing women’s development.
