Hyderabad: On Saturday, a National Lok Adalat took place across Telangana, successfully resolving 11.08 lakh cases. This included 3.63 lakh pre-litigation cases and 7.43 lakh cases already in court.
CH Panchakshari, Member Secretary of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, shared that these cases led to compensation orders totaling Rs. 595 crore. One significant case involved a road accident. Initially, the tribunal decided on a compensation of Rs. 98.30 lakh, but New India Assurance Company settled it for Rs. 1.20 crore with 8% interest.
Pawan Kumar, a B.Tech student, benefited from this settlement, receiving the compensation nine years after the accident.
Advantages of Lok Adalats:
-
No court fees: The process is affordable for everyone. If a case is settled here after being in regular court, the court fees are refunded.
-
Fast and flexible: Lok Adalats operate informally, without strict procedural laws, allowing quick resolutions.
-
Binding decisions: The decisions are final, with no option to appeal, which reduces delays.
-
Lessens court load: By settling many pending and pre-litigation cases, Lok Adalats help ease the pressure on traditional courts.
